Prairie Dog Coalition Development and Outreach Coordinator ~ Job Description
Location: Remote within Colorado’s Front Range or in the Defenders of Wildlife Denver office
Duration: Part-time, hourly; 5-15 hours/week; term of 12 months, with a review and renewal at 6 months. The ideal candidate will be looking for meaningful part-time work that could lead to a long-term or full-time position, depending on development efforts.
Salary: $40/hour depending on experience; negotiable, plus paid travel and lodging expenses.

Position Summary
The Prairie Dog Coalition (PDC) is advertising for a Development and Outreach Coordinator! The Coordinator would be under contract for this 6 months and will be responsible for helping to raise important funds for PDC’s operations in cooperation with the Steering Committee.
Additionally, the Coordinator will be responsible for Outreach efforts including reaching out to coalition partners and advocates and managers to implement a Communications Strategy focused on elevating the positive perception of the prairie dog, conservation and implementing a fundraising campaign. The Coordinator will also provide guidance, responses, and resources to stakeholders of the prairie dog ecosystem and collaborate with conservationists to amplify advocacy efforts.
This role requires a variety of communications, interpersonal skills and comes with opportunities for fieldwork in the summer. We are looking for a self-starter who has fundraising experience and is enthusiastic about prairie dogs and grassland conservation and coalition building.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
1) Implements fundraising plan with the following components:
o Living on Burrowed Time fundraiser event and associated outreach in the fall of 2025 (first 6 months); silent and live auction with sponsorships etc.
o Member group outreach and dues collection. May necessitate rebuilding the PDC base of supporters and engage active members for fundraising efforts.
o Grant writing and individual donations
o Creates development materials and conducts donor and member outreach
2) Outreach and Communications:
o Serves as the point person for outreach efforts, and with communications to target a diverse audience.
o Maintains website and prairie dog information materials
o Responds to the network’s prairie dog inquires online and via social media
3) Administrative duties:
Maintain the program budget and tracking of fundraising efforts
Respond to related emails and schedule Committee meetings
Qualifications
Required
· Minimum commitment of a 6-month contract with opportunity to extend. Opportunity to expand role into a full-time position with sufficient fundraising support.
· Experience or strong interest in fundraising and prairie dog conservation.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to build trust and rapport with diverse stakeholders.
· Strong time-management and ability to manage your own schedule.
· Strong and creative problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Desired
· Experience with fundraising.
· Bachelor’s or Associate degree in conservation biology, wildlife ecology, environmental education, environmental science, communications, social science, or related
discipline.
· Experience working with prairie dogs and/or non-lethal wildlife conflict-mitigation tools.
· Experience with animal husbandry or handling.
Note: Defenders of Wildlife is the fiscal sponsor of the PDC and will oversee this contract position.
